Sometimes the greatest lessons in life can be learned by getting lost...
The congregation that I serve has recently started using this song at worship. I am fascinated by the impact this song has had on me. Spending time reflecting on the past year has been both liberating and hard. If I am honest, transitioning out of a decade+ position and into a new one has been a challenge. There have been some incredible struggles that have forced me to wrestle with giving up a career, a passion, and belief in the power of change. Yet, in the midst of this has been this faithful refrain. "For all that you have done for us, for every battle won. We'll raise a song to bless Your heart for all that you have done." God speaks louder than our struggles, speak into our stories, and invites us to be honest about the journey. Sometimes, those refrains are hollow, they remain broken, they feel empty and other times they remain faithfully strong. Six months ago I don't believe I would have been able to sing this song. Yet, today, in the midst of the challenges is the promise of a God who remains faithful. I know this week has been hell. The stories of people murdered in a synagogue, the breaking down of people's rights for their sexual orientation, the migrants journeying, the abuse of power, and the corruption of political officers all add to the weight of these big questions. In these moments we are invited to look to the faithfulness and honesty of God rather than the perfection of the plan. Where have you seen God's faithfulness this week? Where is God inviting you in to remember? Have hope, be encouraged, "In unity we'll stand as one. As family we'll go. Shoulder to shoulder, hand in hand, into the great unknown." Peace, love and hope find you this day.

A class project in the making. We were asked to take a Psalm and set it to video and to music that wasn't overtly Christian. This one came to mind. It's challenging and rewarding. Tell me what you think! Peace to your journey today! |
